Abstract

Background. Poisoning remains a global health problem in children that requires medical attention in hospital emergency departments due to the possibility of illness and death. A 2008 World Health Organization report in Geneva stated that acute poisoning led to the death of more than 45,000 children under the age of 20, representing what is expected to be 13% of all deaths from accidental poisoning worldwide.

Objective. This study aims to study an epidemiological analysis of emergency cases of child poisoning in the Tabuk region over the period 2015-2020.

Methods and materials. Methods have been divided into two categories: getting information from competent authorities and office work. The author used the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program in the statistical analysis through which the chi-square test was chosen to achieve the objectives of the study and analyze the data collected.

Results. Results showed the total number of cases as 5650 from emergency departments of Tabuk governorates hospitals during the period 2015-2020. Umluj governorate was the highest number of  2147 cases, Tayma 1224 cases, Al Bad’ 967 cases, Tabuk 905 cases, and  Haql 327 cases. Also, the highest number of poisoned cases in emergency departments of Tabuk hospitals has been recorded during this period.
