Abstract

Throughout history, technological advances have brought major benefits to society. There has been a significant change in every facet of our lives such as banking, trading or even entertainment due to internet. The internet raised in its reach throughout the 1990’s. While the internet has made significant contributions to society, it is not without its drawbacks. Since the internet has so much information  and content to offer, some people have become addicted. Internet addiction is defined as spending excessive amounts of time online at the expense of other aspects of life. A survey was conducted at Lamar University and Southwest Minnesota University to study the factors that lead to internet addiction and to examine the relationships between internet addiction and various factors such as depression, anxiety, and stress. Several statistical methods such as correlation analysis and logistic regression are used to study the factors that may lead to internet addiction. We seek to examine factors which can lead to internet addiction and potential causes of internet addiction.
