Abstract

This study explores age-specific and cause-specific adult mortality rates in Assam, India, from 2010 to 2020, focusing on adults aged 15 and above aiming to shed light on demographic and health dynamics crucial for public health policy development. The leading causes of death of people aged 45-69 is cardiovascular disease (CVD). While the risk of death from CVD increases significantly for females between 45 and 54 years of age, it quadruples for males between 35 and 44 and 45 to 54 years of age. Among men aged 45-64, neoplasms account for a disproportionate share of deaths; among those aged 18-64, digestive and infectious disorders have a disproportionate impact. Males died at a higher rate overall, but especially from cancer and cardiovascular illness. The study highlights the necessity for focused interventions that tackle socioeconomic stresses and lifestyle determinants to mitigate premature adult mortality in Assam, providing significant insights for region-specific health policies.
